CRITERIA & COMPETITION
Our Festival welcomes diversity in film submissions, seeking quality productions – feature length, shorts, documentaries, student and animation – in all genres. We have a two-level competition category:
1) The FRANK CAPRA AWARD. All selected films will be first considered for this prestigious position. Best candidates will be those films that “most lift the human spirit, fostering a positive and (hopefully) lasting outcome”. Any genre, length or technique will be considered. However, since only one Capra award is given per Festival year, remaining selections will automatically become eligible for Best Film category below.
2) BEST FILM AWARDS. This is a broader scope of subject and style with storytelling and quality still paramount. Nominations and awards will be given for Best Narrative Feature, Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Feature, Best Documentary Short, Best Student Film, Best Animation and Audience Choice.
In summary, we seek submissions that are entertaining, enriching and enlightening and yes, can be edgy to uplifting. What we won’t accept are films with gratuitous gore, violence or vulgarity that exist solely to shock.
